‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Boyz II Men record track for show

Get ready -How is this for a valuable slice of the 1990s? Boyz II Men are joining forces with “How I Met Your Mother” to record a version of one of the show’s popular songs over the years, and it’s your job for now to try to guess what.

Co-creator Craig Thomas was the first to post this news on Twitter, as the cover was recorded a little bit earlier in the week. Sadly, the only clue that Thomas gave was it was a song that has already been heard on the show. While there’s not exactly 5 CDs worth of original hits out there to choose from, there are at least still a number of worthy choices.

1. “Let’s Go to the Mall” – It’s a classic Robin Sparkles tune, and given the time in which she was supposedly a pop star, Boyz II Men were still all over the charts. This makes a little bit of sense.

2. “Sandcastles in the Sand” – This could also work, but we would imagine that if the group was going to be hired to a number from the Sparkles catalog, wouldn’t it be her most famous hit?

3. “You Just Got Slapped” – There is an episode coming called “Slapsgiving,” and it would make sense for there to be a reprisal of this for the occasion of Marshall concluding the long-awaited slap bet.

4. “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit” – There’s nothing particular notable to tie in to here, except that Barney is still suiting up for every part of the wedding weekend.

There are some other options out there, such as “Night Night, Little Marvin” or “P.S. I Love You,” but they feel too tied to a particularly storyline to be funny here. What we really enjoyed in doing the research for this article was just looking back at all of the great stories that have been told on the show over the years, and how there are so many great original songs that we literally hadn’t thought about in forever.
