‘Cougar Town’ season 5 spoilers: Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox stage ‘Friends’ reunion

Cougar Town -Slowly and surely, Courteney Cox is getting the full gang back together on TBS’ “Cougar Town.” We have already seen appearances from the likes of Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston on the comedy, and now, another former “Friend” is coming on over in Matthew Perry.

TBS announced Tuesday that Perry will be guest-starring on an upcoming installment of season 5, which is going to premiere on the network on Tuesday, January 7. However, they also said that more details about the role will be revealed later. Perry is the first guy from the legendary comedy “Friends” to appear who was one of the core six actors, as both David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc for whatever reason have steered clear of it.

The role for Perry on this show was in some ways coming from a mile away, given that Cox previously made a guest-starring appearance of her own on his short-lived NBC comedy “Go On” last season. Most of the cast has been pretty supportive when it comes to appearing on each other’s projects, knowing that there is still a loyal following after all these years of people who tune in to “Friends” repeats or watch the show on DVD. What makes this gig perhaps all the more interesting is that, once again, it’s Chandler and Monica together in the same room. They are one of those iconic TV couples that everyone remembers for yaers to come, and save for maybe Leonard and Penny on “The Big Bang Theory,” we don’t know if there is another couple on a present-day sitcom that gets about the same level of attention.

“Cougar Town” started off for three seasons on ABC, where it was tossed around repeatedly on the schedule. TBS, meanwhile, has been much more supportive, as evidenced by the fact that they are finding a way still to book guest stars of this caliber on the show.
