‘The Following’ season 2 spoilers: Kevin Bacon teases new love interest (or villain?)

The latest -What makes “The Following” such an engaging show, even in spite of some of its sometimes-obvious flaws, is that there is almost always an issue of allegiance. Even when you think that you’ve got it figured out as to who is really on whose side, you can always be wrong. Emma from last season was one of the first examples of double agents, and there are a few more that will be coming up in the future.

So who could one of these people be? We’re looking in many ways at a character played by Carrie Nielsen. Based on what Kevin Bacon says in a new interview with TV Guide, what makes this woman interesting is that she is going to have something about her right away that makes her alluring to Ryan Hardy. Unfortunately, the appeal may be similar to another important name from his past, and that cannot be considered a good thing:

“There’s a crime, a really scary attack on a subway, and she’s a victim. I meet her… and I am just taken by her … She’s worldly, has an appreciation of art, is just kind of this dynamic creature. I’m not out looking for love, but something about her just draws me in. She is, in a lot of ways, similar to the way I feel about Joe.”

Of course, we know that this quote alone is going to make some people question whether or not there is a reason to worry about Natalie Zea’s character of Claire, and there is given that she was pretty violently attacked at the end of the first season. If she doesn’t survive on the show for whatever reason, let’s just hope that Ryan is able to heal properly from that for long enough so that any future relationship feels natural.

What do you think about this character right now, and do you believe that we are looking at the next great love for Ryan Hardy, or the next great villain for the show as a whole?
