‘Survivor: Blood vs. Water’ preview: Bring on the food challenge!
There is absolutely no challenge more polarizing than a food challenge on “Survivor.” There are some people out there who love them and swear by them as the greatest thing since sliced bread; meanwhile, there are others out there who find them horribly primitive, in bad taste, and really just disgusting on a “Fear Factor” level.
If you want to know where we lie on the meter here, it’s somewhere in between. If these happened a few times a season, we’d hate it and call these challenges blatantly exploitative and useless for the show. As it is, though, we’re fine with it. They don’t happen every season, and it’s not like castaways are forced into eating anything if they don’t want to. The best thing to do is just try to eat the first thing if you don’t want to be in the challenge (since they are not usually as bad as everything that comes after it), don’t make a complete fool out of yourself, and don’t finish in enough time to advance. Of course, you better be 100% safe if you want to do that.
For whatever reason, CBS seems intent on spoiling at least a little bit of the outcome of their challenges in the previews these days. While the video below does not show the winner by any means, it does give away a few of the people who have already been eliminated from the challenge. the people who are still in the game are clearly those that really want to be immune, since you’re not going to go through this any other way. The only castaways that really should be competing for their lives right now are Vytas Baskauskas, Tina Wesson, Katie Collins, and maybe even Tyson Apostol, since he has to realize that he may now be the biggest physical threat on the show now that Aras has been voted out. (He does have that immunity idol, but he would probably like to hold on to it for as long as he possibly can.)
There are going to be a pair of tribal councils that happen over the course of this episode, and there will not be a visit to Redemption Island unless we’re just checking up on Aras. There isn’t anyone there just yet for him to have a duel with, and it’s for that reason that we won’t have an exit interview to share this week.
