‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Nina Dobrev on more romantic Katherine
Have you been hoping to see some of Katherine’s romantic side crop up at some point soon on “The Vampire Diaries”? While it may still be somewhat of a stretch to really call it a “romantic side,” you will at least have an opportunity to check out soon how she is interested in one of the Salvatore brothers after a long period of time being silent. (Who knows? Maybe being human is actually opening her up more to some of her feelings.)
Speaking to E! News about her famous alter ego (which is turning out to be just one of many these days when you also consider both Amara and Elena), Nina Dobrev explained that this is something that will play out slowly over time, and be a little bit of a slow build rather than just something that she stands up and declares to the masses:
“Of course, there is that lingering love for one of the brothers that we learn more about as episodes progress. But she does love one of the brothers…and we see that unfold.”
The most interesting part of this quote is that really, you could be talking about either Damon or Stefan, and the quote would make just as much sense either way. We know that Katherine is capable of being in love with someone, but what we wonder a little more is whether or not she is capable of actually loving from one day to the next. For centuries, the M.O. of her character has been survival at all cost, even if this means a blatant disregard for anyone and everyone else. So how is that going to start to manifest itself now that there are some other people to actually protect like loved one? Given that she is now a human, we don’t really know if she will be capable of doing any protecting.
Even with all of this being said, we are still intrigued to see where the story goes from here on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5, especially as we inch closer to the midway point of this doppelganger bonanza.
