‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 video: Of which we discuss Emilia Clarke’s Twitter thank-you

The latest -Game of Thrones” is an enormous show. We get it. It’s also a show that dominates social media and a number of other spheres. There are not that many shows out there that can manage to get past the million-follower threshold, and you’re really talking about the likes of “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Walking Dead,” and “American Idol” when you get to this level. Even “Breaking Bad” did not even make it to a million before it went off the air, so the achievement here for a premium cable channel’s show on Twitter is especially notable.

But what makes this one in particular more fun is that HBO and the show decided to film a little video to celebrate the milestone featuring Emilia Clarke, which is funny for a couple of reasons.

1. Emilia actually is one of the few “Game of Thrones” stars (at least among the major ones) with an official account, but she only has one tweet telling everyone that this is an official account.

2. This video also tells us something valuable: KHALEESI KNOWS WHAT TWITTER IS! Of course, it is a little bit jarring to feature Clarke in character in the video, when she really didn’t need to do that in order to get the point across. (We want to imagine the production assistant try to convince her that this was a cool move to do.)

While we make fun of this subtly, it is cool for HBO to continue to get some footage out from the characters right now, even while the show is finishing up production for the show’s fourth season. There is of course going to be more for the now Emmy-nominated Clarke to do, and the show should be back for more in either late March or early April. Early next year will be when “Game of Thrones” fans start to celebrate again, and we will have so much more in terms of news to share before that time.
