‘Bones’ season 9 spoilers: Is a villain coming back from the dead?

Here is a “Bones” season 9 scoop that you really may not be that excited to hear … mostly because it involves someone coming back to the show’s universe after being previously killed off.

So who are we talking about here? There really is not a good way to adequately hint at it, so let’s just spell it out: We’re talking about Pelant. According to TVLine, the trademark villain played by Andrew Leeds is going to return for an episode that could be about the show passing the torch from one season to the next. Being that we clearly saw the man die prior to Booth and Brennan getting married, we see this being more than likely a sort of “Saw” franchise scenario where he comes back in some sort of videotape, or to pass along the message to the newly-minted Big Bag entitled the Ghost Killer, who is coming a little later on this season.

It’s still weird to see the show really make an effort to bring Leeds back, which really must suggest that the actor is some sort of otherworldly joy to work with. You don’t want to make any viewers completely tired of seeing your character, and this is something that really runs the risk of doing that. But then again, at least “Bones” is staying true to their past, and being unafraid to make big moves that could come across as controversial to fans, and in some ways, understandably so given that we don’t quite understand this one fully. Let’s just hope that it is some sort of symbolic torch-passing moment, that way there is nothing too emotional taken out of what happened when we saw Pelant die on the show the first time.
