‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘Revenge’ season 3 ratings just keep falling
Is there ever going to be any saving Sunday-night network television? It feels like we never really have anything good to report here, at least save for the fact that millions upon millions of people love watching guys getting their heads smashed in during NFL football broadcasts.
When it comes to the numbers for “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge,” it’s never really good news. While the former show still is managing to stay above a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, it is not that far ahead with its 2.1 for the time being (a new low for a new episode). Even though this isn’t good, the show can at least still take some ownership of having the #1 scripted program on the night … which may be a testament to things like “The Walking Dead,” “Homeland,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and others slowly starting to overwhelm everything on broadcast.
“Revenge” is the show really suffering right now, as its 1.4 rating marks a new series low for it, as well. We blame much of its failures for the time being on the second season, which was generally confusing and not exactly good. While this fall has been a massive step in the right direction, this show is so serialized that it’s hard to really know too uch about what is going on now unless you watched the entirety of season 2. Therefore, it’s never been able to recover.
The silver lining here is that both shows are generally a lock to come back for a fourth season, as ABC is going to cancel “Betrayal” and “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” will reach its intended end. This means that along with the canceled “Lucky 7,” there will already be three other hours to program on the schedule. Also, the network has to consider syndication here, and both of these two shows would make it to that 88-episode threshold if they are able to go on for another year.

Main problem for Once Upon A Time was how it seemingly changed between Season 1 and everything after that. Season 1 was very “Adult” and Women focused – that’s why it roped in a huge audience. It was dark and gritty, and appeared to be going to broach serious topics – murder, rape, single mothers, adoption, mothers & daughters, etc. But something changed and it went all soft. Season 2 and 3 have been a joke – all camp and jokes and disneyfication. It’s regressed to a kiddy, juvenile story, ridiculous cliche romances love triangles and lame, illogical plots. That’s why so many have abandoned it – it’s like every other tv show out there now. That and it’s gone away from it’s focus on female characters as well – it’s all about ‘dudes’ and fatherhood now. And that doesn’t even touch on the Mulan ‘gay but not really’ – yay representation! fiasco. That was a disgrace. I’ve never seen a whiter, straighter town than this one in Maine. It’s becoming like Twilight. Despite claims this was a ‘fresh take’ on Fairy Tales it’s been exposed as just rehashing tired old ideas, wrapped in Disney packaging.
