‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 7 preview: Did Simon Baker’s Jane survive the explosion?
The question in the title may be pretty darn easy to figure out for one simple reason: Had Jane died in the bomb, “The Mentalist” would not have any real story left to tell. So he has, and now we move on to what is the penultimate chapter of the Red John saga in “The Great Red Dragon.
Going into this episode, there are now only three suspects left in Thomas McAllister, Gale Bertram, and Reede Smith with the capability of really being the killer. Of this group, Thomas to us seems to be more of the outlier, since the other two have felt for some time like they were consistently more sketchy. But maybe that is all a part of the trick?
The first memory that Simon Baker’s character has to figure out on next week’s episode is just who actually survived the explosion, and from there, he can piece together who is really the likely candidate to be the killer. The promo below teases that there will be a press conference, and a manhunt that could spread to a situation where John can really get lost in a crowd. It is actually possible that this episode could end with the big reveal that you have long been waiting to see, and when was the last time that you really thought we would be near this reveal finally happening? It feels like forever.
Before we do anything else, let’s at leas share the short synopsis for this episode (even if it does not reveal too much at all):
“Following the shocking events at Jane’s house, the Red John list is narrowed down further, and the CBI’s priority is the remaining suspects.”
Based on the fact that the word “suspects” is plural, you can assume that at least two people do manage to survive the explosion. That in itself is noteworthy, given just how deadly of a situation this could have been. It also has to be frustrating for Jane, who is probably getting to a new level of exhaustion at this point.
