‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 6 review: Did Patrick Jane kill Red John, one of the suspects?

The latest -Thanks to that beast known as NFL football, you have probably been waiting for a full two weeks to chuck out Sunday night’s new episode of “The Mentalist.” Luckily, “Fire and Brimsone” finally aired tonight, and we have to say that this really was worth the wait. We felt at times during the first five seasons that we were suffering through some of the procedural stories, but almost every little thing appears to have been building up to this.

This was an extremely powerful and intense episode, especially when it comes to the last ten minutes when Jane started to go truly haywire. Through some clever plotting an manipulating, he finally had what he wanted in terms of getting every single Red John suspect together in one room. The problem here was that it was not easy, and he trusted no one else to make it happen. So he ditched Lisbon after a touching moment between them, took off to a site that he was very familiar with, and confronted them all, one by one, in an effort to try and figure out the truth.

What came from this showdown at gunpoint was that we can now officially rule out as suspects both Ray Haffner and also Bret Stiles, as neither one of them had the infamous tattoo on their arm. However, the other three men in Gale Bertram, Reede Smith, and Thomas McAllister all did. The journey still is not over, and to make matters worse, a good many of them may all now be dead now before the mystery is solved. Knowing seemingly that he may have been caught, the real Red John brought a bomb with him to the scene. Then, kaboom. This is clearly the biggest cliffhanger the investigation has had yet, and it is coming right before we get to the unmasking that everyone is waiting to see.

Overall, an excellent episode of television that brings us closer to the end. While Lisbon’s own journey back to him was a little convenient and perfectly-executed, it is hard to complain when this is the worst bit of criticism about an otherwise-great hour. Grade: A-.
