‘Homeland’ season 3, episode 7 preview: Javadi tries to broker a deal
Is Saul biting off more than he can chew by trying to work with a terrorist? This is something that we should start to get some sort of answer to on Sunday night’s “Homeland” season 3 episode.
The circumstances that have brought the man into a stare-down with Javadi are fascinating in themselves. Saul knows that he could just arrest the man, throw him in prison, and it would be seen as a major victory. This is a guy who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans, and there is a legion of people out there who probably want his head served up on some sort of medieval-like platter.
But, Saul is a fiercely intelligent guy, and is already well aware of the fact that the benefits from such a thing are limited. There is a much bigger gain that can be brought from working with Javadi than just an arrest. This is why the video highlights the decision by Saul to not just lock him up immediately, and to negotiate. He explains that his goals for him are much more than just getting him to rat on people that he knows or a regime, and will become known soon enough.
For Javadi, we cannot very well imagine that he considers this to be a win. If there is one thing that you want while stuck in the middle of an interrogation room, it’s control; however, Saul is giving up any of that. By the time the dust settles, these two have to find a way for them to each get a little bit of what they want, and Saul is aware of that. He is just making sure that Javadi is as unaware of what exactly the benefits for him here will be as long as possible.
