‘The Originals’ spoilers: Julie Plec on ‘Vampire Diaries’ crossover with Michael Trevino
While it may not be fair to expect Michael Trevino to appear on “The Originals” tonight, one thing is pretty clear in the wake of this past episode of “The Vampire Diaries“: You are not going to be waiting forever to see what happens with werewolf Tyler Lockwood and his quest to try and find Klaus. This is a story that has been years in the making, and Tyler’s revenge will take him to New Orleans eventually … possibly before November is over.
Speaking per The Hollywood Reporter following a recent screening, show creator / executive producer Julie Plec explained that we are not going to have to wait too long to see Trevino, and Tyler will serve a larger purpose beyond just Klaus:
“The crossover is happening very soon. It will answer a couple of questions, one of which is answering the first piece of the mystery of the protective wolf.”
When it comes to how he could impact some other characters, Plec suggests that we are going to see Tyler have a large impact on the story of Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), who came to New Orleans for a reason beyond just having a baby with one of the most-feared hybrids out there:
“One of the big things that Hayley has been asking herself quietly, and the whole thing that brought her to New Orleans in the first place, was trying to get answers about what bloodline she came from, what the mystery of this mark on her shoulder means. The one thing that Tyler does offer in his presence as he sets foot in this world is answers and more information. He takes her to a place out in the bayou where she’s going to start to understand a little bit of where she comes from.”
Personally, this could be a great story arc in that it gives Klaus a capable threat who is not just Marcel, or someone else on the show. It also keeps the ties between one series and the other pretty tight, which is much-appreciated when you consider that you want to develop your own audience, but also keep fans of one show interested in another.
Trevino himself recently commented on the crossover, explaining that everything (including he and Caroline calling it quits) would make a little more sense in the near future.
