‘Homeland’ season 3, episode 6 preview: Saul gives Javadi a history lesson
Want another reason to love Mandy Patankin in “Homeland”? Then just check out the actor’s brilliantly understated performance below in Sunday night’s new episode, as he basically lays out to Javadi just what sort of history that he has out in the field, and how he witnessed so many horrible things while also acting in the name of the U.S. Government.
What is most intriguing about this sneak peek is mostly just that Saul decided to tell this story in the first place. We are looking at a man that holds his secrets so close to the vest that they become sacred. Just how many times do we traditionally hear Saul really dig in here and talk about what he has been through? Not often.
What Saul has been through over the past several months is probably enough to satisfy many on its own. There was the explosion at Langley, and then the side mission that he and Carrie managed to pull off despite no one (including us, frustratingly enough) knowing about it at all. She is now captured, and while it was not under ideal circumstances, the good news for her is that she is on the inside. Saul clearly has quite a bit of confidence despite what everyone is saying about her, which is what he is not acting based on trepidation that she is captured. Instead, he is acting based on hope that she will succeed, and then come out the other side with answers as to who was responsible for the death of so many Americans.
At some point, we also hope that there are answers when it comes to Brody. This is the sixth episode of the season coming up, and we’ve only see Damian Lewis once. This will change eventually, and what we are left wondering for the time being is when.
