‘The Good Wife’ season 5, episode 6 spoilers: What comes next for Josh Charles’ Will?

There is little question (at least to us) that Sunday night’s new episode of “The Good Wife” season 5 was a game-changer. This was an hour that led to the exit of Alicia and Cary from Lockhart Gardner officially, but it happened under what can be best described as some extremely touchy circumstances. There was an epic argument between Josh Charles and Julianna Margulies that is probably going to get both of them into awards-show consideration yet again, and also some notable scenes where Diane had to react to all of this.

But where does Will specifically go from here? As executive producer Robert King said in a new interview with TVLine, what one of the major stories on the show moving forward is going to revolve mostly around is going to be about how Will somehow is able to use this exit as a way to reinvigorate his firm and turn it into an even more powerful institution than ever before:

“Will is really a man reborn. One of the things we wanted to avoid was too much of the tragedy of a break-up like this. Will is finding a new dedication to his passion…. Will’s kind of unbound … [The writers have] realized nothing can go backwards. It just really is this new day, this new paradigm for the show. So we kept finding new ways to illustrate that in both of the law firms.” 

Regardless of what happens next, this is the first time on “The Good Wife” in over a year for us that we have finished off the night feeling like we had just seen a legendary hour of entertainment. “Hitting the Fan” was the best thing the show has brought us since season 3, and it was almost like every pent-up emotion and point of contention just came out of nowhere and just exploded all over the place. This is going to make the rest of season insane.
