ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: What’s next for Olivia, Jake, and Fitz?
Forget “The Vampire Diaries” or “Hart of Dixie”: The biggest love triangle on TV right now is happening over on “Scandal.” You have Olivia Pope and Jake Ballard, who by some purposes may be the better guy for her to be with. While he’s not exact devoid of his own character flaws, he does have going for him the simple fact that he seems nice enough to her, and is not currently married to the First Lady of the United States. (Yes, we do figure that this is somewhat important to things.)
But, the allure of Fitz still remains for Olivia. He clearly still loves her on some level, and she feels the same way about him. The question for the two is trying to figure out how to turn those feelings into something that actually lasts, and it doesn’t seem like it is remotely possible while he holds the title of President. Then again, if nothing does happen and he is re-elected that means we could be waiting for another four years or so depending on if the show runs in real time.
At the moment, what we can promise you is this: As Scott Foley tells E! News, there is going to be some sort of confrontation coming up in the near future between him and Tony Goldwyn’s character. It may be in part motivated by Olivia, but it may also be in part thanks to a certain Operation that is starting to bubble under the surface as one of the most important plot points of this season.
What Foley says that we are not going to see, meanwhile, is some sort of flashback sequence that shows a little bit more of Jake and Fitz’s time in the military … at least for the next several episodes. After that, almost anything is game, and there is also still the second half of the season that is on the horizon just waiting still to be explored.
