‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Edward Norton, Bobby Moynihan tell ‘Fight Club’ jokes and more

More news -How do you inspire young people to watch “Saturday Night Live” this weekend? Apparently, the best way to do it is by bringing on an actor who was a big deal like ten years ago, and then also referencing movies that are almost fifteen years old.

While we cannot say that we fully understand the choice of Edward Norton as the host of this weekend’s show, especially since we just had another accomplished actor in Bruce Willis on the program, he is someone that has an impressive resume of material to pull from. If you are under the age of 21, then is it safe to say that you have at least heard of “Fight Club.” “American History X” or “The Illusionist”? Probably not so much, and you are probably more likely to remember him from his brief stint as The Incredible Hulk prior to “The Avengers.” While he has done comedy, this is not the sort of guy that we envision drawing people in and making them laugh uproariously. Norton’s real talent is playing heavy, dramatic characters, and he may be best in that role while allowing others on the cast to supply the crazy.

From an acting point of view, though, we imagine that Bobby Moynihan was really as giddy as he is in the promo below to actually spend some time with Norton. It’s certainly different than having someone like Justin Bieber on the cast who is good mostly for bringing in young viewers, but may not cause the same amount of geeking out on the set.

“SNL” has yet to announce their hosting lineup for the rest of the year, but we anticipate it being a mixture of mostly actors, musicians, and maybe even an athlete as we dive into the November sweeps. The show still remains one of the top-rated events on Saturday nights and actually draws better numbers than anything related to the genre on the NBC schedule.
