Tuesday night’s “NCIS” episode is entitled “Once A Crook,” and this is going to be a different one than most others in that it takes Tony DiNozzo away from his typical environment with the team, and to a place that he once knew very well and called home for many years: His days working on the force in Baltimore. Perhaps the biggest question that we can ask when looking at the sneak peek below is how in the world they can make a character look fifteen years younger. Michael Weatherly, after all, has been part of this team for a long time now.
There’s sadly not too much of substance in the video itself, unless you include in the opportunity to just see Tony in his old uniform. He’s also looking to try and use a kid to get information on another likely perp, and while this may seems small in some regards, we at least see it as a nice little window into where Tony got some of his police skills in the first place. That cannot be overlooked, since learning the character’s history is usually a way for fans to relate to them on a deeper level.
What we are really hoping here above all else is that we have an opportunity to actually see Weatherly get a meaty story to tackle after Cote de Pablo’s exit, especially one that is very different. For the character, work could be a release to keep his mind off of his heartbreak. Going back to some of his roots, and the police department where he first got his start, should also be a nice little escape.
We know that this will not be the end for interesting Tony stories either, since early word on the street right now is that there are plenty more coming up in the near future. Let’s just hope that he finds whatever it is he is hoping to find from this case, and then presses onward better than ever.
