‘America’s Next Top Model: Guys & Girls’ review: A shocking elimination, and a cycle 21 renewal

The latest -Before we get to the hard news when it comes to tonight’s “America’s Next Top Model” episode, let’s begin with some breaking news coming in here via The CW: The franchise will be coming back for more! It was confirmed today that there will be a Cycle 21 of the franchise, which will once again feature men and women competing against each other for the grand prize and a deal that could change their lives. The show has found more of a niche in the late summer / early fall, where there is less competition and it can carry effectively into the fall season.

But now, we progress to what happened tonight, where there was everything from more Chris drama to a shocking double-elimination following a photo shoot that literally involved beautiful fields and also dangerous snakes. If this is not a reason for the models to be afraid, we don’t know what is. This is also the sort of challenge that we hate, given that it makes the show more out to be “Fear Factor.” This is not something that most models will have to book, so why do it to them here?

The elimination of Nina was all the more upsetting, since she seemed to be both a fan favorite and someone who had done very well the past few weeks. Unfortunately, the scoring system in place is something that is really not cumulative; it just depends on how the judges and America choose to score you, and it may or may not factor in the past performances.

As for Jeremy, we can’t really sit here with a straight face and act shocked. This was a guy who has been in danger many times, and even went home once before being brought back. He was never going to win, so he should just be thankful that he got this far, and can go back to his life looking like Nick Jonas while also having a ton more experience under his belt.

We can’t say that we loved this episode. While Bali may be a beautiful place, this combined the two things that we hate most in every season: Double-eliminations and also unnecessary fear. Grade: C-
