‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Janina Gavankar on big Qetsiyah reveal

Vampire Diaries -Was Janina Gavankar more than just a woman named Tessa on “The Vampire Diaries” last night? You better believe it. In one of the biggest shockers in this season so far, we learned that the former “True Blood” star was playing the part of Qetsiyah, a woman who was not only the original witch, but also created the cure and was a longtime love of Silas’ for many, many years. That’s a lot to digest, and it clearly shows that Janina’s character has quite a bit story to tell.

However, what makes all of this so interesting for now is that going into this show, she had no idea that she would be playing a character with such big weight on the mythology. As a matter of fact, Gavankar tells TV Guide that she felt going into this like she was just playing the part of Tessa, a woman with a mysterious past linked to one of the characters. This has been quite an eye-opener for her, and she suggests that there are many “bloody” situations that will be coming up on the show moving forward.

In addition to that, Janina also teases that we are going to see something more for Qetsiyah when it comes to how she deals with Stefan (Paul Wesley), a guy that will bring back past memories of Silas and possibly even romance:

“Absolutely, that’s inevitable. But he’s not the first [dopperlganger] she’s watched, so she has a lot of restraint. But it is hard. You’ll see moments of her staring at him and trying not to fall in love. I read comments with people already ‘shipping ‘Stessa’ and I’m like, ‘You might not want to do that because she will kill anyone who stands in the way of her ultimate goal no matter who they are.'”

The best way that we can summarize all of this? That this is going to be plenty of fun as the weeks and months progress.
