‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 5 spoilers: Big moments for Maggie Smith, Allen Leech

What's next -Sometimes, the folks over at ITV are more than liberal when it comes to sharing some details about there upcoming episodes of “Downton Abbey.” Other times, they are just about as coy as coy can be. Sadly, you’re getting the latter as the official synopsis for episode 5 of season 4 and it has us wondering if the tension for the residents of “Downton Abbey” is going to continue? We would say that the answer to this is most definitely. There’s no mention of Lady Mary, Lord Gillingham, or that devastating story surrounding Anna and Bates that first started to crumble beginning with the rape of Anna by Mr. Green in episode 3, but we know that these stories are far from over.

The only positives? There is at least a hint in here that Maggie Smith and Allen Leech are going to have some pretty fun stuff to play as their characters start to handle changing circumstances. Take a look below:

“Change is in the air as an exciting opportunity for Alfred creates tension between Ivy and Daisy. Isobel appeals to Violet’s sense of charity, but it doesn’t come without a fight, and Branson considers a whole new future for himself and baby Sybbie.”

When it comes to the Alfred / Daisy story, the only thing we have to say at this point is just figure it out already! The lack of movement here is frustrating, and the amount of time that they have spent here going nowhere is insane. The Tom story is far more interesting, given the amount of hints that have already been dropped over whether or not we could actually see this character make a move away from Downton, and some of the people who have become his family. He feels as though he doesn’t belong in the aristocracy, and while the other lords and ladies may try to treat him as something special, they also know within their heart of hearts that there is something a little different about him.
