‘Today Show’: Miley Cyrus insults Matt Lauer to his face, performs (video)

Two days after she drew favorable reviews for her performance on “Saturday Night Live,” Miley Cyrus was back to doing some of the other things that have given her a lot of negative press as of late: Saying (and doing) controversial things.

Today, that meant going on to “The Today Show,” where in addition to performing some songs off of her “Bangerz” album, she was asked about all of the recent highlights: Her performance at the VMAs, her bizarre sense of style, and her recent conflicts with Sinaed O’Connor via a series of Twitter posts. When she was asked about how she promotes sexuality, she openly slammed Matt Lauer to his face by more or less saying that he was the least sexual person out there. Ouch? Maybe, but we doubt that Lauer hardly cared about what Miley’s opinion of him is.

In a sense, we get the frustration that Miley must feel when doing interviews like this one. After all, it’s like Lauer and the “Today” team don’t find anything new or relevant to ask their guests about, and instead just stick with the lazy questions that casual viewers may want to hear more about for the umpteenth time. However, at the same time doesn’t Miley have to understand that this is how you play the game? While this sort of move like shaming Lauer may seem cool and edgy now, what happens to her years down the road if she needs a favor from them? Few stars ever stay on a high level of fame forever and taking shots at the press never ever helps your career.

What do you think about Miley’s interview here, and do you think that it was funny, or rude to slam Matt Lauer given his predictable line of questioning?
