‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 4: Alex O’Loughlin on Danny’s new ride

There is going to be an arrival of something new on “Hawaii Five-0” season 4 tonight, and it’s something that is a little bit different than a new character of a high-profile guest star: What about a brand-new Camaro for McGarrett and Danny to use while they are out solving cases? It may be product-placement in a way, but at least it’s product-placement that is pretty cool. (As long as the characters don’t sit around and blab about it all episode long, we’re reasonably cool about it.)

Speaking to TV Guide about already having the vehicle around after the previous one was destroyed (a good excuse for a new model), Alex O’Loughlin had the following to say about what is a perfect reason for him to go behind the wheel:

“I’m not ready to let him drive it because he’s not responsible,” O’Loughlin says. “First of all, he can’t drive stick and it’s a stick. So that should be the end of this f—ing thing. But it’s not. He rides the clutch. He grinds the gears. It’s like, if he would just get a little humble and just ask me, I’ll teach him how to drive it. And when he does, I’ll give him the keys back.”

Of course, the reality here is that this is not going to have that much when it comes to a substantial impact on the series, and the reasoning why seems obvious since it’s not a character, and it’s probably not going to pull a Knight Rider and start talking (though some crazier things have happened), but change is still something worth noting.

What do you think about the new car, and are you cool with having obvious product placement on the show if it’s implemented well enough?
