‘Glee’ season 5 song spoilers: Lea Michele, Chris Colfer cover ‘Get Back’

The cover -Fans of Chris Colfer have to enjoy the fact that he is featured prominently in a song on “Glee” for the second week in a row. There was a time during seasons 3-4 where we had to wait many weeks for Kurt Hummel to have some time in the spotlight. Suffice it to say, it’s pretty difficult to get yourself the play you deserve when you are on a show with so many other big characters with big voices left and right.

Even with our excitement about a Colfer performance, we also must admit that with this, the reference is for a duet with Lea Michele rather than a solo. At least there are some standout moments for both Kurt and Lea’s Rachel in the Beatles track “Get Back” from Thursday’s “Tina in the Sky with Diamonds.” This is a fun performance, and one that the two vocally dominate throughout. Considering that there are better songs from the Beatles that have not been covered as well as what these two do here, you really have to celebrate the conviction and the effort they are putting into making this something special.

While last week it was somewhat easier to tune it out, knowing that there was a buffer episode in between, it is rather hard this time to listen to a song featuring Lea and knowing that next week is “The Quarterback,” the hour that is all about the death of Finn Hudson and a tribute to Cory Monteith’s work. While it is being billed largely as a “celebration” of sorts, it is hard to deny that the tear ducts will be a-flowing during the entire hour.
