‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Expectations for Tina Fey, Arcade Fire in premiere

More news -Ready for the “Saturday Night Live” premiere to be here? We’re with you! Tonight is going to be an experiment, to say the least, and it is probably a good idea that Tina Fey is the host and Arcade Fire is the musical guest. They’ve both been through this before, and having the level of experience that they do should be helpful.

With that being said, we don’t think that tonight is going to be the best show ever. There are so many people that Lorne Michaels is going to be introducing (who you can read about here), so there will be a part of this show that feels like the first day of school, where you are forced to go around in a circle and find out things about some of your fellow classmates. Some remaining cast members will be relied on heavily, especially Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer, Kenan Thompson, and Taran Killam. We’re imagining almost that Killam will now emerge as the Bill Hader sort of “star” for the show given that he has always been somewhat under-utilized.

Hopefully, there will be the emergence of a new character or two on “Weekend Update,” given that we are now without The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party. Cecily Strong is now a co-anchor with Seth Meyers, and she’s not going to have the same sort of ability to jump between one role and the next.

As for Arcade Fire, the music will be great if you love them; but, we’re more comedy fans than we are music buffs. We’ll stay focused on what we know.

Check back here tonight at 1:00 a.m. after the show airs, as we’ll be one of the first to give you a full review. Missed the show for whatever reason? Then we will be back with some highlights in the morning.
