‘Bones’ season 9, episode 2 review: Sweets makes a move; Booth and Brennan go undercover

Take a look -Well, we wish we had some more awesome things to say about “The Cheat in the Retreat.” This was an episode of “Bones” that we were excited for thanks to two simple reasons: We had the reappearance of the great undercover duo otherwise known as Tony and Roxie, and we also had a guest-appearance from John Ratzenberger as a very bad guy.

But, there were some serious frustrations in here as there was virtually no progress made at all when it comes to the big story about Pelant keeping Booth and Brennan from getting married. While they are clearly on good enough terms to disrobe following the end of a case, that is not enough for the two to actually start to give all of their secrets away (to quote OneRepublic).

Was this episode still by and large entertaining? Definitely, but when you remember that the show only has a certain amount of time left before the wedding episode actually airs later this fall, they better find the time soon to pick up the story or risk viewers becoming incredibly frustrated with them.

When it comes to some other stories, this was the hour that Sweets really started to realize that at the moment, his heart is not quite in the investigations that he is being asked to do. This is a major change for the character to take a step away, but it’s one that makes sense given what happened in the finale. It is going to be interesting to see just what happens next here, and thankfully, we won’t be waiting very long at all to find out.

So in the end, this was a fun, but uneventful episode. We don’t really see it becoming a classic in any sense of the word.
