‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6, episode 3 preview: ‘Poenitentia,’ and Ron Perlman’s eyes
Sometimes, eyes can have an impact that goes beyond words or personality. You may know someone is a terrible person, but you may just see enough of a glimmer of hope in the way that they look that it makes you want to believe them. This is what made Benjamin Linus such an iconic character on “Lost”; you knew he was lying all the time, and yet you continued to want to believe him regardless. At the end of the day, this produced a reaction that was completely your fault for ever believing him in the first place.
We can say something very similar here about Ron Perlman and his “Sons of Anarchy” character of Clay. You can look at the attached photo here from tomorrow night’s episode “Poenitentia,” and it could make you want to actually give the guy a big hug. Then, you remember that he is in prison (The outfit gives it away), and then you remember back to all of the terrible things that the man has done.
This basically leaves you with the sort of feeling that you get when you see a puppy shred your comic-book collection; you want to say that it’s going to be okay, but you’re too upset at the moment over what they’ve done. The only difference is that with Clay, he’s doing it on purpose, and completely understands what he is doing is wrong. A puppy ripping up Spider-Man is mere child’s play… unless it’s the number one issue still in the bag, then it’s war.
Speaking of dangerous people, anytime that we see Lee Toric with someone from the District Attorney’s office, it means trouble is on the way for SAMCRO. He is almost in the worst possible position for the club in that he has the capability to do things that are almost as awful as Jax and company; yet, he also has access to and support from local law enforcement thanks to his employment history. There is a big Toric / Jax showdown coming (as teased in the promo here), and this is going to be one of the highlights of the season so far.
