‘Ray Donovan’ season 2 debate: What stories do you want to see?

The latest -Last night, Showtime did more than just close the book on “Dexter”; it also brought us to the end of “Ray Donovan,” its once-promising action series that had a pretty great pilot, a strong episode 2, but then slowly became very little more than the “Smash” of action series. There were great elements, great performances (see Jon Voight), and stunning visuals, but nothing ever really came together. At times Mickey was so bumbling he seemed just as suited for a sitcom as for a scripted drama series.

Now that season 1 ended in a way that really didn’t tie together too much of anything, save for maybe explaining more backstory and drawing a line in the sand, where are we supposed to go next? At this point, and as great as Voight is, we would almost prefer him to take more of a backseat, and for Ray to get back to being somewhat of the better person that he was earlier in the series. There’s nothing that interesting anymore about an antihero. We’ve already had it in “Breaking Bad” and “Boardwalk Empire,” and there is nothing that intriguing about going down that road once again.

Like with “Dexter,” “Ray Donovan” felt like it was not quite sure how to tie everything together, but the difference here is that it will have another chance to fix itself when it comes back on the air next summer. We hope that the show takes on an approach that is actually more similar to “Dexter’s” earlier seasons in that there could be a Big Bad separate from Ray’s world, and then some family stories to navigate through that. Seeing a family struggle first and foremost would be exhausting, and also repetitive for that span of time. There is something more to Ray, and we are excited to see just what that could be.

Is there anything you would want to see on a “Ray Donovan” season 2? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and click here if you want to see some more scoop related to the show.
