‘Glee’ season 5 song spoilers: Lea Michele, Naya Rivera sing ‘A Hard Day’s Night’

The cover -Want to hear a surprising duet from the “Glee” season 5 premiere? You don’t have to look any further than the video below, where Rachel (Lea Michele) and Santana (Naya Rivera) try to rock out to the classic Beatles hit “A Hard Day’s Night.”

Given that Rachel already had another cover (listen to “Yesterday” here), we didn’t really think that she would be featured prominently in more than one song this week given how much action will be happening over at McKinley High. Clearly, we were wrong. This is one of the Fab Four’s more energetic hits, and you can tell that from almost the first note of this version.

As for why in the world we are hearing Santana and Rachel sing this song, it’s a good question. The song is changed somewhat to accommodate their voices, and thematically there are questions around it. Our guess is that they are choosing to sing it to represent some of their current struggles. They are currently working hard to make their dreams come true, but here’s the problem: Dreams don’t pay. While Rachel waits for the “Funny Girl” decision, she has to find a way to make a little bit of money. This is the reality of New York City, and the fact that only Kurt seemed to have a job out of the New York gang last year was something that was pretty bizarre, especially when their apartment was big enough to actually have space in it. (Space and New York hardly go hand in hand.)

Want to hear some more “Glee” covers from the premiere? Then we like to think that we have you covered:

1. Some of the guys still at McKinley High take on the classic “I Saw Her Standing There,” and it feels almost straight out of “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

2. During the second episode, Santana is going to sing a duet with Demi Lovato’s Dani, all to the tune of “Here Comes the Sun.”
