‘Modern Family’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Suburgatory’ vet cast as Cam’s sister
When it comes to their latest casting for “Modern Family” season 5, producers have decided to keep things firmly within the ABC family (and no we’re not talking about the channel with “Pretty Little Liars”).
According to TVLine, Dana Powell, who has appeared in six episodes of “Suburgatory” as Rhonda, has landed the role of Cam’s fun but competitive sister from the midwest who definitely has some potential to shake things up in a pretty substantial way. Extended family members have always made for some pretty fun episodes on the show, and we have to ultimately hope for the same here when Dana does decide to stop by.
To this point, “Modern Family” has remained a stalwart of the ABC schedule, and we certainly are interested to see what happens to it now courtesy of one thing: Syndication. This helped to balloon the “Big Bang Theory” audience to a new level over the past two years, and if more viewers end up finding the show courtesy of USA or some other cable networks, it would not be too great of a surprise if we end up seeing it do the same thing here. ABC could certainly use it, given that “Modern Family” exists almost on an island when it comes to having high ratings, whereas most other shows are more in the average range and have not benefited too much from its success.
There are some other interesting subjects that will be tackled during “Modern Family” season 5, including same-sex marriage. Julie Bowen said recently that it will be taken on early during the fall run, but would be done in a way that is funny and feels true to the show.
