‘The Newsroom’ season 2 finale spoilers: Jeff Daniels and a shocking moment
One of the reasons why Jeff Daniels is an Emmy nominee for “The Newsroom,” even if the show itself can be somewhat polarizing, is pretty simply: Just when you think that Will McAvoy is going to suddenly cave in to something emotional, whether it be sentimentality or something else, he comes immediately roaring back with the same sort of stubbornness that you have come to expect from the character.
Take, for example, what could have been a very drippy moment in tomorrow night’s finale that is saved thanks to Will’s staunch reaction to it. In the sneak peek below, you can see that the “News Night” anchor is doing his best to explain to the staff as to why he, Mackenzie, and Charlie are trying so hard to resign from ACN: They want to ensure that the other jobs of the people who worked on Genoa are spared.
However, the issue here is that the rest of the people involved, whether it be Don, Jim, or some of the other members of the team, refuse to allow this to happen. Heck, they even tell Will that if he goes, they are going to go with them. This almost forces Will’s hand in a bizarre way. He can continue to get himself dismissed and have everyone else go unemployed, or they have to find a way to work through this mess post-Genoa together. It’s not going to be easy, there will be plenty of backlash from the public, and they will have to cover for it using something that should always be the center of attention for any news organization: Quality journalism.
This is not the only sneak peek that we have for “The Newsroom” finale. Click here if you want to see an interesting scene between Jim and his ex Lisa, which may be the first sign of Maggie on the mend.
