‘American Idol’ season 13: Randy Jackson hypes up first season without him as judge

Randy JacksonEven though Randy Jackson may not actually be a part of “American Idol” season 13 as a judge, you can’t shake him off that easily. The Dawg is going to be back in action as a mentor this season, filling the role previously occupied by none other that Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine. While it may be easy to rag on this decision, we suppose that there is a certain advantage (maybe) that comes out of the guy being on the show for 12 years. We may be cynical, but we’ll at least give him a chance to see if he is effective in this role at all.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Jackson believes that the new panel, which includes the likes of Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. is going to actually be one of the strongest yet. He also praised all three of the judges and said to expect many “inside jokes” between the group:

“I know them all very, very well. They’re all amazing people, great in their own right, very credible, really cool, funny.”

The one thing that does give us some hope here is that “The X Factor” premiere tonight proved that chemistry is more important than anything else. The judges on this show got along, and it made for a pretty good premiere in comparison to what we saw during “American Idol” last season or “The X Factor” season 2. Who knows? Maybe this panel gets along great and throws the attention back on the contestants. (Maybe we’re being overly optimistic here.)

What do you think: Could this season of “American Idol” actually be surprisingly great? We want to hear more of your thoughts below! Meanwhile, click here if you want to read some more news related to the show.
