‘Open’: Michelle Monaghan to work with Anna Torv on Ryan Murphy’s HBO pilot

The latest -Even though there is no confirmation yet that Ryan Murphy’s ambitious / very racy HBO pilot “Open” is ever even going to make it to series, we have yet another high-profile casting to share to go along with some of the others, which include “Fringe’s” Anna Torv, Wes Bentley, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

This one, according to Deadline, is none other than Michelle Monaghan, who is going to play the part of Grace, a gynecologist who is going to discover a surprising and instant connection to Torv’s character of Windsor, who works as a yoga instructor. There are a pair of problems with this that do make it all the more complicated. One, Michelle is engaged to a man, and two, Windsor is in a long-term relationship with Leigh’s character Holly. Sound dramatic? We are sure that it will be.

The overall plot for “Open” is what seems to be somewhat of a mystery, save for that it explores the nature of sexual identity in a variety of different ways and with different people. We hope that there will be something more to this, and given the quality of Murphy’s work (and also that of Lauren Gussis, who is working with him on this show), we are sure that there will be. It is difficult to imagine that HBO would not be interested in a pick-up here, mostly because Murphy does have a track record of series getting off to strong starts, and with many of their other shows losing steam as of late save for “Game of Thrones,” they are in need of a new hit.

What do you think about this casting? If you want to read some more news about this project, just be sure to click here. We will hopefully know more about the fate of this project by the end of the year.
