‘American Horror Story: Coven’ promo: First look at Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and more

While the last several promos for “American Horror Story: Coven” have been so much more in the way of cryptic, the latest one unveiled by FX today actually does a good job of showing some of the actors that you have been hearing about being a part of the show for much of the past few months.

There are so many little nuggets of strangeness / greatness in the video below, beginning with the reveal of our main characters (including Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates) to seeing some of the supposed witches-in-training enter what could be the Ryan Murphy version of Hogwarts.

The rest of our thoughts are somewhat stream-of-consciousness, so it works better to present them in such a way:

1. Sarah Paulson is now a blonde!

2. What’s with the cow’s head being attached to what looks to be some strange dummy-body at the door.

3. Apparently, one of the characteristics of being a modern witch is that you have to give off the impression of being both 10 feet tall and also at a masquerade bash.

4. Who else is excited to see Gabourey Sidibe in this?

5. Animals seem to be somewhat of a theme here, given that there is also a cat and what appears to be a buck right before the ladies take off their masks.

6. Did anyone else notice the logo on the ceiling?

We know that it is common practice for showrunners to hide little hints of their upcoming stories in their promo, and this one feels like Murphy basically threw all sorts of themes into it in hopes that some fans would pick up on them.
