‘The X Factor’ UK: Sam Bailey already getting the Susan Boyle treatment via angry press

The latest -Oh, the British tabloids can be a nasty bunch. Rather than trying to enjoy the merits of a surprising audition on the show from an “undiscovered” artist, these people go and try to find ways to refute the claim.

When it comes to Sam Bailey, their argument is that the mom and prison worker is somehow a liar because she has done backup vocals for artists in the past, and also auditioned for “The X Factor” many years ago along with “Britain’s Got Talent.” These details were uncovered in a story by The Sun, which then tries to make the case that she is somehow less deserving for misleading people. It’s a treatment that the papers tried to also do to Susan Boyle, though she was to be fair less experienced, and only had a few smaller gigs under her belt at the time of her audition. (This pressure still led to her having a breakdown after “Britain’s Got Talent” is over.)

These reports are completely unfair to Bailey in this regard, and for a number of reasons:

1. “American Idol” winner Candice Glover this year had auditioned for the show before, and this did not make her a worse contestant. All having professional singing gigs does is show that you’ve tried to make your career work before; it’s not like Bailey has an album out or made it deep on a TV competition before.

2. She probably did tell “The X Factor” producers about everything she had done. These people do thorough background checks to make sure they do not have convicted felons or other people of questionable taste on the show. If anything, you should blame the producers for not giving you the information you wanted.

3. With talent pools drying up, do you really think there is going to ever be another singer on this show with zero experience in their thirties? We think not.

Here’s what you need to know: Bailey was “discovered” over the weekend because she had never been given a public opportunity like this before, and most viewers were hearing her for the first time. She was working as a prison worker because she hasn’t been given this sort of opportunity.

Take a look here at some other “X Factor” auditions, and then wonder to yourself whether or not the tabloids will be digging up dirt on them soon as well.
