‘True Blood’ season 7 debate: Mapping out the future for Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric

A surprise -This is the first part of what is going to be an ongoing series about “True Blood” season 7, where we are going to be taking a look at each character, their journey so far, and also where we could see them going into what may be the show’s final season based on discussions with HBO and the producers.

We’re going to start things off today with a character that we were honestly not even sure was going to be a part of the series next year: Eric Northman. Based on Alexander Skarsgard’s rising star status, we admittedly had quite a few fears that we were going to be seeing him leave the show with his character’s supposed “death” at the midway point of the season 6 finale.

This is a man that has clearly been through quite a bit already. He’s lost his own mentor in Godric, his “sister” in Nora, and he almost doesn’t have a direction in life anymore. So can he really turn things around and suddenly get his head on straight? We think that he will, since he has otherwise managed to successfully waste Pam’s time for going through the effort to save him.

At this point, Eric seems to us like a character that could be a martyr at some point, and his major priority would ultimately just be as a vampire father of sorts. We can’t see him really being in love again at this point in his life; he’s more just a lost soul, wandering this earth with a set of fangs and looking for a purpose. He tried to find it in destroying the vampire camp, but he felt just as empty in the end.

The biggest mystery for Eric in season 7? Whether or not he can open himself up enough to be a part of others’ lives again, and in a positive, supportive manner.

What do you think is going to happen with Eric Northman on this coming season, and do you think that he will live to the end of the series? If you want to read some more “True Blood” news and character analysis, just be sure to check out the story over at the link here.
