Kris Jenner goes on tirade about President Obama, defends Kim Kardashian (shocker)
Well, we have a new example of the Kardashian family managing to make a big deal perhaps where there was none; and in this sense, we’re almost completely sure that Kris Jenner missed the point of what was originally being discussed. But first (to quote Julie Chen on “Big Brother”), some backstory. During a recent interview done in conjunction with Amazon, President Obama was asked to more or less compare the experiences of young people today to what it was like for some many years ago when he was growing up, and what their influences and expectations were. His response? That there is a major change in what some people look at or idealize:
“There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous,” the President said of his own coming-of-age experience. Kids weren’t monitoring everyday what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”
Now, we turn to the video below from her talk show, where Kris defends her daughter and the father of North West (a phrase that we never thought that we would say), explaining that Kim is the hardest-woman young woman out there, and that Obama is actually discouraging people from having big dreams and not aspiring to have great success in life.
Um … is this actually what he said at all? We’ll let you debate that in the comments below, but what we took from Obama’s comments is that it is the expectation idealization of what Kim is wearing that is the problem rather than Kim herself or her job. There have always been celebrities, but modern culture makes their every day activities into a huge story making young people care that Kim just ate a sandwich or decided to go for a walk. Obama has blasted Kanye in the past, but didn’t really seemed to be doing so here.
Then again, Jenner is aware that such comments bring attention to her show, which is in the middle of a test run to determine if it will be a permanent fixture in the lineup in the future. Any publicity of her own helps to further galvanized the Kardashian army.
