Oscars 2014: Ellen DeGeneres to host for second time
For the 2014 Academy Awards, the producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ultimately decided that when it comes to finding the next person to be in charge of their show, they really were better off picking a familiar face. Therefore, we are going to see the return of Ellen DeGeneres to host cinema’s biggest night for the first time since 2007. While it will have been a full seven years since her past hosting gig, Ellen has probably become even more loved since then. She has a dominant daytime program, friends throughout the industry, and the sort of humor that is funny without having to incorporate gags about “we saw your boobs” or other silly things.
In a statement first confirming the big news on Friday, Ellen had the following to say (in of course the form of a joke) about getting the opportunity to come back:
“I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say — the third time’s the charm.”
Meanwhile, both Zadan and Meron added the following:
“We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.”
Personally, we find this news to be exciting. While we don’t necessarily feel like Ellen is going to do anything altogether surprising, she should host a solid show that is funny, but also positive and relatively devoid of major controversy. Plus, after watching James Franco and Anne Hathaway host the awards show, everything else is amazing.
