‘MasterChef’ USA season 4 review: A sushi redux and visits from home
While we loved seeing “MasterChef” enter the wild outdoors last week, there was something rather comforting about Wednesday’s installment: There was a mystery box competition, and then an elimination that had actually been done before in the past.
The family challenge was a little sappy, as these sort of things are, but for some perspective, imagine being cut off from your loved ones for a month, and being in a vacuum where all you think about is food and winning. It’s like a quick snap back to reality, and Luca handled it the best in winning the challenge. We still think his skill set is somewhat limited outside of his specialty, and he has fourth or fifth-place finisher written all over him (even if we do like his accent).
The elimination challenge was to us far more entertaining, mostly because it revisited the old sushi-making competition that also gave Luca the power to team up the chefs and force them to recreate a platter. We always feel awful watching the sea urchins in there, especially when Jordan destroyed the poor thing. The teams were him and James, Krissy and Natasha (hilarious), and Jessie and Eddie.
Just from the standpoint of being unable to actually get along, we would almost say for certain that we were going to see the end of either Krissy or her adversary. However, there is some sort of odd phenomenon that comes from having contestants rise from the ashes. Jessie and Eddie looked lost almost the entirety of their time, and from this standpoint they were the clear favorites to be in danger.
Our suspicions were confirmed at the end of the episode, and we saw Eddie end up leaving the competition. We’re sad to see him go, but at the same time, this was a shock to no one given the lack of airtime.
Do you think that the right person was sent packing from the world of “MasterChef” this week? If you want to check out some more interviews and other news related to the show, be sure to check out the story over at the link here.

I’d rather Krissi have been out. Why is she still in the competition? They’re carrying her further and further on. She should have been out LONG ago. Yes Jessie and Eddie were the weaker team, but sushi’s hard so whatever.
Luca should have put Eddie and Krissi together. Then Krissi would have left. Stupid putting Natasha and Krissi, cause Natasha wouldn’t be the one going home, she’s the stronger of the two.
