‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Boss on Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and death

Ian SomerhalderThe first thing about “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 that is rather nice to hear is the news that despite everything that some of these characters have gone through over the past several years, there is a possibility of them getting an opportunity to have something that seems as foreign to this world as men keeping their shirts on: A regular sort of relationship where people are not trying to kill or use each other.

If you want to see some examples of what Damon and Elena are going to be fighting about in this new collection of episodes, executive producer Julie Plec has some of them for you now! Just be sure to see what she said below courtesy of a chat with Entertainment Weekly:

“[The conflicts are] in which one is keeping a secret from another trying not to hurt their feelings, trying to make them happy, little things that any normal couple would fight about and then hopefully make up over. The biggest hurdles in their relationship come from external sources, people, ideas, notions that are trying to say they’re not supposed to be together. It’s really going to be more about them fighting to prove that they should be together and it’s okay.”

While neither Nina Dobrev or Ian Somerhalder’s characters will be in danger of doing something terrible to each other this season, it does look as though not everyone on this show (big surprise here) is going to be safe. Death has become a part of the fabric of this show just as much as blood or vampires drinking booze, and that will once again be present here. Plec says that the series has devised some pretty cool villains, and they could end up placing some long-beloved characters in jeopardy in the near future.
