‘NCIS’ season 11: Fans petition CBS to bring Cote de Pablo back

ZivaIt’s not often that there are opportunities to do more then one “NCIS” story within a single day, but the passion of the fans rallied behind one of the actresses on this show can’t be ignored.

If you’re upset about something a network has done, there are really a few different things that you can do about it: You can send in letters or peanuts like “Jericho” viewers did years ago, picket in front of their building wearing felt goatees (thanks, “Community” fans!), or you can try to leverage the power of social media in order to make your voice heard. There’s no guarantee that any of these tactics will work, but it is at least an opportunity to find like-minded people, and let the network know how you feel.

This afternoon (at around 4:20 p.m. Eastern time), fans of “NCIS” managed to get #DearCBSWeWantCote as a trending topic. This is a pretty impressive achievement, given just how many people there are in the world, and only a select percentage of “NCIS” fans are huge Cote de Pablo fans. This alone deserves a pretty heavy round of applause for the people involved in making this happen, and the people at CBS will for sure see it.

But is this actually going to accomplish anything at all? In the short-term, it’s unlikely, given that scripts have already been written. Maybe, in the event that Cote’s Ziva leaves by some means other than being killed, it does encourage the two parties to work something out with the future of the show, but there are some factors to consider. For one, this decision to leave was ultimately made by Cote, according to reliable reports. Also, you have to believe that CBS probably makes no decision lightly for the most-watched drama on television. They spent all summer trying to think things through and work this out behind closed doors.

If nothing else, the trend has to make Cote (we’re sure she’ll hear about it, even if she’s not on Twitter) and even “NCIS” itself feel pretty good about themselves. Just don’t get too bent out of shape if nothing happens; after all, Kol fans for “The Vampire Diaries” have trended countless things in hopes of getting their character back on the show, but all they’ve really managed to accomplish is Julie Plec reminding them time and time again that it’s not going to happen.
