NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 at Comic-Con: Dan Harmon as Iron Man; more D&D coming
“Community” was many things at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, but above all, we like to believe that it was a celebration of everything that made this noteworthy series into the cult sensation. Were there ridiculous moments? Sure. Dan Harmon, for example, seemed to enjoy being the self-deprecating god that he is to some of these people, entering the stage dressed as Iron Man before later demanding that fans stop loving him. It was a spectacle in some ways, but also a fun one.
First of all, Joel McHale addressed his absence in a taped message, which was of course a sign that he would be there if he not off shooting a film project. Considering that Harmon owes him for really getting his job back, it does seem appropriate that he would at least in part be a focal point of the celebration.
Now, for the scoop. It was revealed at the panel that we are likely going to have another Dungeons & Dragons-themed episode this year, but Harmon has learned somewhat from his issues at the end of season 3, and is not going to try and plan as stringently as he did at that time. He said to expect a show closer to season 1 or 2 in feel, and for them to be the “most important” for the series yet.
Also, don’t expect these to be thought of as the end for the cast and crew. Harmon stressed here that he has no plans for this to be the end for the show, and the shouts of “six seasons and a movie” rained down from the sky during the panel (at least metaphorically).
