‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Surprises, spin-off talk, more at Comic-Con

Dexter

The first Hall H panel at Comic-Con in San Diego has now happened, and the subject of it was a show that clearly has established one of the biggest fan followings out there over the past several years: “Dexter.”

So what was there to talk about? Really, the answer here is quite a bit. While Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Yvonne Strahovski, and others were hesitant to really dish too much to some of the folks in attendance, at least save for explaining that Dr. Vogel will continue to hash out Dexter’s origin story, and thus present a completely interesting step-up as we near the end and our slayer is really forced to confront his demons more than he ever has before.

What we found to be especially engaging from this panel was just the sense of fun that everyone seemed to be having, from the cast to the executive producers now that the show is over. We had special appearances from Julie Benz, Lauren Velez, and Erik King, with the latter wearing a “surprise, motherf***er” t-shirt for effect. John Lithgow sent in a video message, and it contained this brilliant one-liner: “I wish I could be with you today, but as you all know, I’m dead.” We also found out that Carpenter took the most stuff on set, and that David Zayas plays football with fake feet when he needs to decompress. (We hope he’s joking.)

Hall also joked about the latest spin-off rumors, saying that a future “Dexter” spin-off would focus on a 25-year old Harrison receiving advice from a ghostly form of Dexter. (This is clearly a joke, so don’t take that as proof he’s going to die.)

In some other cool news, the complete series is going to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 5, and it will come in a collector’s blood slide box. So in other words, all of you impatient people who have been buying the seasons individually have to deal with that.
