Criminal Minds: Evolution season 20: Who will be the focus?

For those who are not aware already, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 20 is already in production — and it will look rather different from anything we’ve seen before.

So what are all the different ways the show is going to stand out? It is a rather long list, but it begins with the fact that Elias Voit is now gone. There is going to be a time jump and within that, we are at least going to see a reset for some of the characters. Alas, this is still not a show where everyone can be happy for some extended period of time — there are too many variables at play, and also new threats that are going to enter the picture.

Is one singular character going to be the focus more so than anyone else? It at least feels that way, based on what showrunner Erica Messer had to say to TV Insider:

Probably Rossi. I mean, to your question about, “Can he close the book on [Voit saga], and will there be a lighter Rossi?” Yeah, for an episode, and then it gets heavy for him again. But I think Rossi is very affected by some stuff that happens early on in Season 20, and the team is rallying to help everybody get through it, but it feels emotionally that Rossi’s hit really hard in Season 20.

Odds are, this means that another threat is going to rise to the forefront. This is the thing about both Criminal Minds: Evolution and the BAU as a whole: There is only so long that anyone can breathe easy. Someone else is always lurking around the corner, and your work as a special agent is never quite done.
