‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 spoilers: Scott Gimple on AMC, path ahead

The Walking DeadFor Scott M. Gimple, next week is going to be a rather interesting one. It marks the showrunner’s first appearance at Comic-Con in this role for “The Walking Dead,” and he is also the third showrunner in three years to show up for AMC. At this point, some of the conflicts that have happened between AMC and the executive producers are well-documented, and there is a reason why Frank Darabont and Glen Mazzara are no longer with the show (despite getting great ratings and mass critical acclaim.)

But is Gimple himself worried about meeting the same sort of end? It doesn’t sound like it, at least based on what he had to say recently in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“I don’t have any concerns about that. Working with AMC has been great. The only thing I get freaked out about is that I get a great deal of support from everybody. They want this show to succeed; they want me to succeed. And really, doing right by them and the fans, that’s it.”

Gimple also went on to address some of the concerns that fans had about The Governor surviving and Andrea dying at the end of season 3, and he did his best to offer some sort of consolation that there is going to be an exciting light that comes up at the end of the tunnel here:

“Hopefully all those people will be excited about the stuff that’s coming in this new season. Maybe some of the [conflict with Michonne, Rick and the Governor] wasn’t entirely skipped over. It’s all part of a greater story because the story is continuing. All that stuff is going to affect the future.”

We will find out much more about season 4 next week, when the show does invade the San Diego Convention Center. We should also get a chance to at least see some sort of footage from the new season (even if it is just behind the scenes).
