House of the Dragon season 3 episode 5 preview: Alicent’s new challenge

As we look in the direction of House of the Dragon season 3 episode 5 on HBO next week, there are multiple things that are clear.

To be specific here, are there more sides in the conflict than there has ever been? Back in season 2, so much about the promotion was about Team Green versus Team Black. Now, however, we are seeing that shift across the board. Ormund seems intent on getting Daeron on the Iron Throne — so what does that mean for Aemond, provided he is truly okay? What about Aegon? The Greens, as they once were, are now shattered. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra sits in King’s Landing but some relationships are strained — take Corlys, for example. She has leaned on Alicent for guidance, and yet another problem has started to surface there, as well.

To be specific, we are gearing up for an issue now where Helaena is pregnant and through that, another heir could enter the picture. Alicent has to figure out what to do about this — she recognizes that Rhaenyra is not entirely cruel, but she was still willing to exile the imposter Daeron. There is no way that she could allow a possible heir to the throne to sit around in King’s Landing.

As for what else we are hoping for, can we prepare for something big with Aemond sooner rather than later? The man has been off-screen ever since turning up in Harrenhal and yet, we do tend to think that he is still alive and will have a major role to play.

At this point, we have officially made it to the halfway point of season 3 and within that, things are only going to get more chaotic from here on out. Go ahead and buckle up accordingly.
