The Vampire Lestat season 4 renewal: Is it close to a sure thing?

As we approach the latest episode of The Vampire Lestat airing this weekend on AMC, we are still curious about the long-term future. How can we not? The first three seasons of the Anne Rice adaptation have been successful no matter how you frame it. Not only have the reviews been excellent, but that is without getting into the show’s performance when it comes to viewership across the board.

Admittedly, getting a sense of exact ratings is almost impossible in this current era, especially when a lot is determined by streaming numbers. This is where we are happy to get a little bit more intel from the network itself.

In a new interview with The Ankler, Dan McDermott, who is AMC’s chief content officer and president of AMC Studios, had the following to say about the performance so far:

“On our streaming platform, we had a 30-day estimate for the show in terms of how it would perform, and it exceeded the 30-day estimate in seven days, and it has now doubled the 30-day estimate in the first 20 days. To say it’s significantly over-performing for us would be accurate.”

Just from hearing that alone, we do tend to think that more of Lestat’s journey is a done deal. Sure, we recognize that this is not an altogether cheap show to make thanks to the special effects and all of the different locations, but it is arguably the crown jewel in AMC’s lineup these days. Just remember that the Talamasca show was canceled, Mayfair Witches has yet to find its voice, and the once-dominant The Walking Dead has faded in terms of its popularity.
