The Vampire Lestat series premiere: Is Lestat still alive?

We have officially made it to the other side of The Vampire Lestat season 1 episode 1 on AMC, and our overall sentiment now is pretty simple. How can you not be mesmerized by some of what you saw? After all, we got in here what we would personally describe as an especially satisfying continuing to Interview with the Vampire, one that brought a new sense of energy but also questions that need to be answered.
In particular, one of the biggest ones comes courtesy of the start of the premiere, where an especially important question came up regarding Lestat’s fate: Is he even still alive?

Ultimately, here is what we know — we bore witness to what felt very-much like an estate auction, one where we first saw some of his belongings incinerated before the music box was placed up for sale. Characters like Louis and Armand were in attendance, but the status of Sam Reid’s character was very-much left up in the air. We are meant to have questions regarding this, especially since you could view the remainder of the first episode as scenes witnessed by whoever purchased the items at the auction.
You can make an argument here that Lestat faked his own death; or, that he has been forced into hiding. Isn’t it one of the most rock-star things imaginable to create some crazy stunt regarding your own demise? This is a show that will likely progress pretty darn fast and through that, we will have more answers. Of course, along the way we hope that some of these answers are also about the relationship between Louis and Lestat. These two are, after all, the real core of what a lot of this show is all about.
