Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 5: Will Beth, Beulah ‘alliance’ last?

If there is one big reveal that came out of the events of Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 5, it was the chance to see Beth and Rip forge a deal with Beulah — if you want to call it a deal. Kelly Reilly’s character did recognize that with the present state of the herd, there were some things that had to be done to ensure their own future. She could help get Beulah better deals — but would not use the Dutton name in the process.

Should Beulah have concerns about this? Sure, but she also recognizes the potential benefit and Beth sold herself well. The problem is that she doesn’t know what Rip found in the form of that body — there is more leverage here than she is aware.

Speaking to TVLine, here is some of what Marc Menchaca (who plays Zachariah) had to say about the deal that has been made:

“Based on Beth and Rip’s history, I don’t think it’s going to last long … I think they are going to have some leverage to wage a a war. I’m not saying they’re going to take over the Jacksons’ ranch, but I think they’re going to be on the path to making their own destiny.”

Given that there are a handful of stories moving forward this season, we do tend to think that everything is going to get more chaotic sooner rather than later — and why wouldn’t it? Beth and Rip are desperate to turn things around, but they are also going to be careful. They’ve got more experience dealing with crises than anyone would ever know — and that is without even mentioning Beth’s last name and the legacy that comes along with it.
