Euphoria season 3 episode 8 (finale): Is Rue dead?

We certainly recognized heading into the Euphoria season 3 finale that creator Sam Levinson could be bringing us some surprises. However, the death of Rue Bennett was not one we had high on the list.
Given Zendaya’s star power and then also the potential for creating more seasons years down the road, we thought that the show would at least keep her alive. However, that turned out to not be the case. She died of an overdose and was eventually found by Ali on his coach. That was a devastating moment for Zendaya’s character, but then also someone who tried for some time to watch over her.

There is an argument that could be made that the character’s fate was inevitable given what transpired throughout the season, that she got herself in too much trouble that all of the old demons could come back. Yet, we did somehow do our best to have the smallest amount of hope. Unfortunately, she is gone, and this was yet another wait on Ali as he had to be the one to break the news to Leslie. For some other characters, it was mourning — but a lot of that happened in very different forms. For Ali, that included going on a rather extensive revenge tour to find the people responsible at the club.
(We ill say that Colman Domingo is next-level awesome in the finale, filling Alamo Brown while also getting to say some fantastic dialogue along the way.)
With the death of Rue, it certainly does feel at least easier to assume that a season 4 of Euphoria is not going to happen — and if there is more of these characters, it would come via a spin-off.
