Euphoria season 4: Is it renewed, canceled over at HBO?

Following the all-important season 3 finale tonight on HBO, is there more we can say regarding a Euphoria season 4? Is another chapter of this story actually going to happen?

Let’s just kick this article off by noting simply all the unusual information that has been out there on the future of the show already. Zendaya suggested months ago that this could be the end; however, HBO has never promoted this as the final season, including leading up to the finale. You could argue that the show is pulling a Penny Dreadful and will tell us about the series finale after the fact. Or, they may just be trying to keep their options open, similar to what Apple TV did during the third season of Ted Lasso.

After all, consider the following here for a moment: There is no universe in which HBO benefits from Euphoria ending this season. Despite some of the backlash and controversy, this was still a really popular season that drove a ton of discussion for them. They may be happy to sit back and see if creator Sam Levinson comes up with another idea over the next few years. This is not a project that has to be rushed, as evidenced further by just how many years there were between seasons 2 and 3.

Beyond getting the story together, though, the other huge challenge here would simply be assembling the same level cast again. Just remember here that Sydney Sweeney and others have become legitimate movie stars over the past few years — Jacob Elordi’s time on the show is clearly over, but there is still a lot of talent that you have to think about. (Zendaya was already a star before the show ever came out, but we cannot really say the same about the rest of the younger cast.)

Ultimately, we will just have to wait and see what the future holds — let’s just hope for a little closure in the meantime.
